About the Role
**About the role:**
We’re looking for a software engineer who is also interested in crypto markets and comfortable participating in day trading as part of the role.
You’ll work with us to research trading strategies, analyze market data, and build algorithms that can be tested and improved over time. A major part of the work will be studying
**10 years or more of historical data where available**
, identifying patterns, testing hypotheses, and using evidence to evaluate trading ideas.
This is one integrated role: you’ll contribute to both the trading work and the software behind it. We’re open to students, recent graduates, and experienced candidates who can show strong technical and analytical skills alongside genuine crypto trading experience.
We value practical problem-solving. You should be comfortable finding useful exchanges, APIs, datasets, libraries, open-source projects, and existing tools, then connecting them into a working system. The goal is to build a stable crypto trading algorithm by assembling and improving what already works—not rebuilding every component from scratch.
**What you’ll do**
- Participate in crypto market research and day-trading activity.
- Analyze long-term historical market data, including 10 years or more where reliable data is available.
- Collect, clean, validate, and analyze data from crypto exchanges and other relevant sources.
- Use data analysis and critical thinking to identify patterns, test hypotheses, and assess whether a strategy has evidence behind it.
- Study price action, market behavior, and trading strategies, and help translate useful ideas into testable rules.
- Develop Python tools and services for data collection, analysis, and automation.
- Work with exchange APIs, libraries, and other data sources; use scripting or automation where appropriate.
- Research technical indicators and formulas using reliable references, open-source tools, and AI assistants such as Claude.
- Verify formulas and AI-generated code before using them in analysis or trading systems.
- Connect existing tools and services to fill gaps in the trading workflow.
- Build and improve backtesting, monitoring, alerting, and execution components.
- Test strategies with historical data and simulated trading, then help evaluate live trading under defined risk limits.
- Document your methods, assumptions, results, and limitations so the team can make data-informed decisions.
**What we’re looking for**
- Strong interest in cryptocurrency markets and demonstrable experience buying, selling, or day trading crypto.
- Comfort participating in day-trading research and activity as well as software development.
- Strong data analysis and critical analysis skills, with the ability to question assumptions and interpret results carefully.
- Working knowledge of Python, including writing scripts for data collection, analysis, and automation.
- Experience using APIs, preferably exchange APIs, and handling structured data such as JSON.
- Ability to work with historical and time-series data and to evaluate trading ideas using evidence.
- Familiarity with appropriate tools for data-driven analysis, such as pandas, NumPy, SQL, notebooks, statistical methods, or visualization tools.
- Ability to research indicators, understand the logic behind them, and translate ideas into code.
- A practical mindset: you look for suitable existing tools and libraries before building a replacement.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain your reasoning, trading ideas, and technical decisions.
- Curiosity, discipline, and a willingness to learn from experiments that do not produce the expected result.
**Helpful experience**
- Familiarity with crypto exchanges, market-data feeds, order types, and trading dashboards.
- Experience analyzing large datasets, historical price data, or time-series data.
- Exposure to backtesting, quantitative analysis, algorithmic trading, or risk management.
- Experience with tools such as Cursor, Claude, or other AI coding assistants.
- Contributions to relevant open-source projects or personal trading, data analysis, or software projects.
**Who should apply**
You do not need a particular degree or a long employment history. Students, recent graduates, self-taught developers, and experienced professionals are all welcome to apply if they can demonstrate relevant skills and trading experience.
This role combines hands-on crypto market participation with software engineering and data analysis. If you are interested only in coding and are not comfortable engaging with day-trading activity, this role may not be the right fit.
